Sue Karlan to Address San Diego County Bar Association
SAN DIEGO, California – May 30, 2016. Sue Karlan, Esq., Senior Vice President of On Point Risk Solutions, will be speaking at the San Diego County Bar Association (Bar) special conference, “A Look Inside the Surety Claims Process.” Karlan will be discussing unrealistic expectations of obligees/claimants when filing a claim.
The conference is presented by the Bar’s Construction and Insurance/Bad Faith Law Section. It will include an expert panel comprised of Karlan and other surety claims professionals, who will share inside perspectives on the surety claims process, including:
- The mechanics of defaulting/terminating a contractor per the terms of a performance bond
- Negotiating takeover/tender agreements with a replacement contractor after termination, and the distinctions/differences between the two
- Surety specific defenses in litigation
- Common issues with sureties suits against defaulted/terminated contractors pursuant to the parties’ indemnity agreement
Karlan is also Senior Vice President of Surety at ICW Group. She is an active member of the Surety and Fidelity Association of America, National Association of Independent Sureties, Surety Claims Institute, and Vice Chair of the American Bar Association’s Surety and Fidelity Law committee.
